Our Curriculum

Student Expectations

The Kingsley Academy Learner

At Kingsley Academy, we support students through a structured approach aligned with our SEND curriculum and personalised learning pathways. Our learner framework helps students understand what they can expect from us and what we expect from them, promoting confidence, responsibility, and positive development within an inclusive learning environment.

Intent, Implementation and Impact

Intent

Our curriculum is designed to help learners reconnect with education and feel motivated to succeed. We provide practical vocational experiences that build confidence, develop skills, and provide direction for future choices in education, training, or employment.

We support positive behaviour, personal growth, and well-being through structured learning, strong relationships, and clear expectations.

Implementation

Learning is shaped around each student’s interests and needs while following the national curriculum in a way that feels accessible and practical. Lessons are practical and engaging, delivered in small steps to build understanding and confidence.

English and maths are embedded into vocational activities, so skills feel relevant and useful. Sessions are structured into short teaching blocks with regular support, recap and guidance from experienced tutors.

Our Pathways

Practical Learning Routes

At Kingsley Academy, we have created seven vocational pathways that inform our curriculum. Each pathway has embedded English, mathematics and ICT, along with weekly PSHE and careers sessions. The teaching method is practical, tailored to students’ needs, and focused on equipping young people with confidence, qualifications, and the ability to navigate real-life challenges.

British Values in Education

Respect, Responsibility and Inclusion

We promote respect, tolerance, democracy, the rule of law and individual liberty across daily learning and PSHE sessions. These values help students understand their role in society and build positive relationships.

Our FATE values: Friendship and Respect, Aspiration, Trust and Empathy; guide behaviour, celebrate diversity and support personal development. Students learn how to make informed choices, care for their well-being, and seek support when needed.

How We Teach

Our Approach

We follow the national curriculum using kinaesthetic, therapeutic and small-step teaching methods that help learners stay engaged without feeling overwhelmed. Learning is implemented in small, scaffolded chunks, allowing students to build confidence gradually while making steady academic and personal progress.

Practical sessions support English, maths, communication and emotional wellbeing through structured, supportive learning experiences.
